Graphic 45 “Sun Kissed” 12″ X 12″ Canvas Layout

It’s been warming up in my area of the country, so I was inspired to create a canvas layout using the fun beach themed paper collection “Sun Kissed” by Graphic 45!

The subject in the photo is my niece Jinji, which was taken just about 15 years ago. I felt the colors in the photo were a perfect compliment to the the paper collection.

The Sun Kissed paper collection is so charming and reminds me of trips to the beach as a child.

I used a variety of designer papers and elements from the 12″ X 12″ collection pack, 8″ X 8″ paper pad, and the cardstock die-cuts.

To add dimension and a little sparkle, I popped up some of the elements from the designer paper by “fussy cutting” cut pieces and layering over the exact same section on the 12″ X 12″ paper. I achieved this by cutting pieces of medium weight chipboard and adhered the chipboard pieces to the back of the cut pieces. (you can see the steps in the images below)

In addition to popping up some design elements from the paper, I used Ultra Thick Embossing Powder in clear from Ranger. The thick embossing powder is much thicker than regular embossing powder. Ro adhere the embossing powder, I used Versamark Watermark and the Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Pen with the brush tip. I generally use thick embossing product when I make paper beads. I love how it gives the paper element a ‘enameled-like” finish. It looks great on the turtle in the upper right hand of the canvas.

I mounted the finished piece onto a 12″ X 12″ Artist Loft Canvas Panel purchased from Michael’s using Aleene’s Tacky Glue (slightly diluted with a mist of water).

I hope this post inspires you to try some of the techniques and products I used.
